21 Health Tricks To Teach Your Body

21-tricks-shiatsu_0

1. Cure a Tickling Throat
When you were 9, playing your armpit was a cool trick. Now, as an adult, you can still appreciate a good body-based feat, especially if it serves as a health remedy. Take that tickle in your throat: It’s not worth gagging over. Here’s a better way to scratch your itch: Scratch your ear. “When the nerves in the ear are stimulated, it creates a reflex in the throat that can cause a muscle spasm,” says Scott Schaffer, M.D., president of an ear, nose, and throat specialty center in Gibbsboro, New Jersey. “This spasm relieves the tickle.”
2. Experience Supersonic Hearing
If you’re stuck chatting up a mumbler at a cocktail party, lean in with your right ear. It’s better than your left at following the rapid rhythms of speech, according to researchers at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. If, on the other hand, you’re trying to identify that song playing softly in the elevator, turn your left ear toward the sound. The left ear is better at picking up music tones.
3. Calm Yourself With Cold Water
Nerves getting the best of you. Take a deep breath and spash cold water on your face. This triggers the mammalian diving reflex that is genetically in all animals including humans. The lower temperature of the water and you holding your breath also causes your body to think it’s diving into cold water. This reflex allows you to use oxygen more efficiently.
4. Overcome Your Most Primal Urge To Pee
Need to pee? No bathroom nearby? Fantasize about what ever turns you on. Thinking about sex and arousing fantasies preoccupies your brain, so you won’t feel as much discomfort, says Larry Lipshultz, M.D., chief of male reproductive medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine.
5. Feel No Pain While Giving Blood
Love donating blood but hate the needle prick? German researchers have discovered that coughing during a needle stick can lessen the pain. According to Taras Usichenko, author of a study on the phenomenon, the trick causes a sudden, temporary rise in pressure in the chest and spinal canal, inhibiting the pain-conducting structures of the spinal cord.
6. Swallow Your Horse-Sized Supplements
Those huge health supplements are sometimes a pain to swallow. Want to swallow more than one at a time without gagging? Try this trick to get them down: take a drink of water, and tilt your head forward instead of backward. The capsule should float, and will be at the back of your throat, ready to swallow.
7. Clear Your Stuffed Nose
Forget Sudafed. Here’s an easier, quicker, and cheaper remedy to relieve sinus pressure: Alternate thrusting your tongue against the roof of your mouth, then pressing between your eyebrows with one finger. This causes the vomer bone, which runs through the nasal passages to the mouth, to rock back and forth, says Lisa DeStefano, D.O., an assistant professor at the Michigan State University college of osteopathic medicine. The motion loosens congestion; after 20 seconds, you’ll feel your sinuses start to drain.
8. Fight Acid Reflux By Sleeping Position
Worried that chilli will repeat on you tonight? Try this preventive remedy: “Sleep on your left side,” says Anthony A. Starpoli, M.D., a New York City gastroenterologist and assistant professor of medicine at New York Medical College. Studies have shown that patients who sleep on their left sides are less likely to suffer from acid reflux. The esophagus and stomach connect at an angle. When you sleep on your right, the stomach is higher than the esophagus, allowing food and stomach acid to slide up your throat. When you’re on your left, the stomach is lower than the esophagus, so gravity’s in your favor.
9. Cure Your Toothache
Just rub ice on the back of your hand, on the V-shaped webbed area between your thumb and index finger. A Canadian study found that this technique reduces toothache pain by as much as 50 percent compared with using no ice. The nerve pathways at the base of that V stimulate an area of the brain that blocks pain signals from the face and hands.
10. Make Burns Disappear
When you accidentally singe your finger on the stove, clean the skin and apply light pressure with the finger pads of your unmarred hand. Ice will relieve your pain more quickly, Dr. DeStefano says, but since the natual method brings the burned skin back to a normal temperature, the skin is less likely to blister.
11. Stop the World from Spinning
Feeling dizzy? Put your hand on something stable. The part of your ear responsible for balance–the cupula– floats in a fluid of the same density as blood. “As alcohol dilutes blood in the cupula, the cupula becomes less dense and rises,” says Dr. Schaffer. This confuses your brain. The tactile input from a stable object gives the brain a second opinion, and you feel more in balance. Because the nerves in the hand are so sensitive, this works better than the conventional foot-on-the-floor wisdom.
12. Unstitch Your Side
If you’re like most people, when you run, you exhale as your right foot hits the ground. This puts downward pressure on your liver (which lives on your right side), which then tugs at the diaphragm and creates a side stitch, according to The Doctors Book of Home Remedies for Men. The fix: Exhale as your left foot strikes the ground.
13. Stop A Nose Bleed
Put some cotton on your upper gums–just behind that small dent below your nose–and press against it, hard. “Most bleeds come from the front of the septum, the cartilage wall that divides the nose,” says Peter Desmarais, M.D., an ear, nose, and throat specialist at Entabeni Hospital, in Durban, South Africa. “Pressing here helps stop them.”
14. Make Your Heart Stand Still
Trying to quell first-date jitters? Blow on your thumb. The vagus nerve, which governs heart rate, can be controlled through breathing, says Ben Abo, an emergency medical-services specialist at the University of Pittsburgh. It’ll get your heart rate back to normal.
15. Thaw Your Brain Freeze
Press your tongue flat against the roof of your mouth, covering as much as you can. “Since the nerves in the roof of your mouth get extremely cold, your body thinks your brain is freezing, too,” says Abo. “In compensating, it overheats, causing an ice-cream headache.” The more pressure you apply to the roof of your mouth, the faster your headache will subside.
16. Prevent Near-Sightedness
Poor distance vision is rarely caused by genetics, says Anne Barber, O.D., an optometrist in Tacoma, Washington. “It’s usually caused by near-point stress.” In other words, staring at your computer screen for too long. So flex your way to 20/20 vision. Every few hours during the day, close your eyes, tense your body, take a deep breath, and, after a few seconds, release your breath and muscles at the same time. Tightening and releasing muscles such as the biceps and glutes can trick involuntary muscles–like the eyes–into relaxing as well.
17. Wake Up a Limb That Feel Asleep
If your hand falls asleep while you’re driving or sitting in an odd position, rock your head from side to side. It’ll painlessly banish your pins and needles in less than a minute, says Dr. DeStefano. A tingly hand or arm is often the result of compression in the bundle of nerves in your neck; loosening your neck muscles releases the pressure. Compressed nerves lower in the body govern the feet, so stand up and walk around if they fail you.
18. Impress Your Friends
Next time you’re at a party, try this trick: Have a person hold one arm straight out to the side, palm down, and instruct him to maintain this position. Then place two fingers on his wrist and push down. He’ll resist. Now have him put one foot on a surface that’s a half inch higher (a few magazines) and repeat. This time his arm will cave in. By misaligning his hips, you’ve offset his spine, says Rachel Cosgrove, C.S.C.S., co-owner of Results Fitness, in Santa Clarita, California. Your brain senses that the spine is vulnerable, so it shuts down the body’s ability to resist.
19. Breathe Underwater
If you’re dying to retrieve that quarter from the bottom of the pool, take several short breaths first–essentially, hyperventilate. When you’re underwater, it’s not a lack of oxygen that makes you desperate for a breath; it’s the buildup of carbon dioxide, which makes your blood acidic, which signals your brain that something ain’t right. “When you hyperventilate, the influx of oxygen lowers blood acidity,” says Jonathan Armbruster, Ph.D., an associate professor of biology at Auburn University. “This tricks your brain into thinking it has more oxygen.” It’ll buy you up to 10 seconds.
20. Encode Long-Term Memory
Your own! “If you’re giving a speech the next day, review it before falling asleep,” says Candi Heimgartner, an instructor of biological sciences at the University of Idaho. Since most memory consolidation happens during sleep, anything you read right before bed is more likely to be encoded as long-term memory.
21. Relieve a Migraine Instantly
The next time you are about to reach for some pills to get rid of your headache, use your thumb and forefinger and pinch down on the muscle on the web of your hand (thumb on the back of your hand and forefinger underneath) and press for 2 minutes. Repeat. Most headaches and migraines will ease after just 4 minutes. This shiatsu point addresses headaches by dispersing stagnant Ki (i.e. blocked energy) and moving blood in the head, neck, and other parts of the body.

Science: Your Eye Color Reveals A Lot About You

http://themindunleashed.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/eye-color.jpg

There are many things that your eye color reveals about you. Did you know that no two people have the ‘exact’ same eye color? Or what about he fact that every person with blue eyes can be traced back to the same ancestor that lived in the black sea region about 10,000 years ago? It’s true. Everyone alive today with blue eyes has a very specific DNA sequence. Some of you may already know that when babies are first born, they have no melanin in their eyes, thus giving them a ‘hazy blue’ eye color. This changes quickly, though, into whatever color will be the baby’s permanent eye color.
Brown eye color used to be considered dominant, but scientists have now revealed that eye color is actually a multi-gene trait, rather than a single gene one. It’s a little bit more complicated than to simply say that the brown eye color is the dominant one. It’s more of a gene combination. Did you know it’s genetically possible to have your iris divided into two colors, or even TWO different color irises?!
Did you now that eye color can change over time? Eyes don’t constantly produce pigment, thus becoming lighter or even darker as time goes on. This little info-graphic by Mezzmer illustrates all of these fun facts in an easy to understand way. Your eyes truly say a lot about your ancestry.

Scientists Demonstrate Remarkable Evidence Of Dream Telepathy Between People

Dream telepathy suggests that human beings have the ability to communicate telepathically with another person while they are dreaming. This isn’t a new concept, scientific interest in telepathy dates back to the fathers of the psychoanalytic movement. Freud, for example, considered telepathy and the implications of it with regards to psychoanalytic thought. He also considered dream telepathy, or the telepathic influence of thought on dreaming on multiple occasions. Carl Jung believed in the telepathic hypothesis without question, and even developed a theoretical system to explain “paranormal” events of this nature. (2)
All great minds seem to encourage the study of various types of non-physical phenomena.
“The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence.” - Nikola Tesla
“A wealth of anecdotal and clinical material exist which supports the possibility of telepathic effects occurring in dreams (Krippner, 1974). However, an experimental approach to the topic did not become possible until psycho-physiological laboratory technology became available. It was discovered that sleeping research participants awakened from periods of rapid eye movement (REM) activity were frequently able to recall dream episodes. As a result, it was possible to request a “telepathic receiver” to attempt dreaming about a target stimulus that was being focused on in a distant location from a telepathic sender.” (source)

Experiments and Results

In the mid 1960′s, Montague Ullman, MD, began a number of experiments at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York to test the hypothesis that sleeping people could dream about randomly selected material that they were targeting to dream about. In other words, they could choose what they wanted to dream about, some examples include artwork, movies, photographs and more. Shortly after these experiments began, she was joined by Stanley Krippner. Krippner is a PhD., and professor of psychology at Saybrook University, he has a very impressive background when it comes to the scientific study of dreams, psychology and parapsychology.
The experiments they conducted lasted a span of more than 10 years, and “yielded statistically significant results.”
During the experiments, there was usually a “telepathic sender” and a “telepathic receiver.” They met in the laboratory for a short period of time before being placed in completely separate rooms just before they went to sleep. The “telepathic” sender had an envelope waiting for them in the room in which they’d sleep. The envelope would contain something like a picture or a drawing. The “receivers” were then purposely awakened shortly after Rapid Eye Movement sleep (REM) and the researchers took a dream report.

degasA Very Significant Session

One very memorable and significant session of dream telepathy experimentation took place where the selected art print was “School of Dance” by Degas, which depicted a dance class of several young women. According to Krippner, the “receivers” dream reports included such phrases as “I was in a class made up of maybe half a dozen people, it felt like a school,” and “There was one little girl that was trying to dance with me.” These results are extremely fascinating, the idea that one can influence another’s dream is quite remarkable. Although we might not understand the process behind the transfer of information, and we can’t see this transfer take place from mind to mind, the phenomenon was well documented and real, yet void of any scientific understanding or explanation. This is quite common when we examine scientific studies that have evaluated parapsychological phenomena. It’s real, observed, yet we don’t quite understand ‘how.’
Another significant session conducted by Krippner and Ullman took place on March 15th 1970. In this session, a large group of people at a Holy Modal Rounders rock concert were selected as the “telepathic senders.” A local media artist by the name of Jean Millay took responsibility to ready the “telepathic senders” for “target preparation.” She did this with help from the Lidd Light Company, a group of artists that were responsible for the light show at the concert. Millay gave the audience a brief verbal set of directions before the image was flashed on the large screen that the “telepathic” senders were looking at. Six slide projectors were used to project a color film about eagles and their nesting habits as well as information about various birds from around the world, including information about the mythological Phoenix. This all happened at the same time Holy Modal Rounders were playing their song, “If you want to be a bird.”
There were five volunteer “telepathic receivers” for this experiment, and they were all located within a one hundred mile radius from the “telepathic senders.” All of the receivers were aware of the concert location and were told to record their images at midnight because that was when the material to be sent by the senders would be exposed to them.
“One “telepathic receiver,” Helen Andrews, had the impression of “something mythological, like a griffin or a phoenix.” The second, third and fourth research participants reported images of “a snake,” “grapes,” and “an embryo in flames.” The fifth participant was Richie Havens, the celebrated American singer and recording artist, who reported closing his eyes at midnight and visualizing “a number of seagulls flying over water.” Both Mr. Havens and Ms. Andrews reports represented direct correspondences with the target material.”(source)
More remarkable results were seen when the rock group “Grateful Dead” also volunteered to participate in a dream telepathy session over a span of six nights. You can read more about that (and other results) here. These results were actually published by the American Psychological Association (1)
These are usually the instructions given to the subjects that participate in these experiments.
1. You are about to participate in an ESP experiment.

2. In a few seconds you will see a picture.

3. Try using your ESP to “send” this picture to the receiver.

4. The receiver will try to dream about this picture. Try to “Send” it to them.

5. Then, receivers will be made aware of the senders location

Possible Explanations?

Quantum physics has shed light on the vast interconnectedness of everything in the universe. One possible explanation is quantum entanglement.  For example, two electrons that are created together, if you send one to the other side of the universe, the other will respond instantly, distance doesn’t matter. This is one way of interpreting how everything is really connected in some way. Einstein called it “spooky actions at a distance.”  For a great visual demonstration of this, click here.
The truth of the matter is that there is no explanation and scientists are unable to give an explanation. They were only able to observe what was taking place, which again,  is very common for parapsychological phenomenon.
At the same time, these experiments involve dreams, a completely different and altered state of “reality” that we really don’t know much about. It’s a world separate (or at least we think) from the world in which we are “awake.” Although the world we perceive when we are awake could just be a dream. We could go on and on with these questions, and continue contemplating forever.

Parasychological Phenomenon Has Been Proven and Documented All Over The World

Parapsychological (PSI) phenomena, and studies examining the role of consciousness and its influence on our physical material world has been studied, documented, observed and proven (over and over again) by a number of renowned scientists in a number of laboratories all over the world. The Department of Defense has had a huge interest in it (and have studied it) for a number of years, yet the scientific study of it is concealed from the public and left out of universities and mainstream science, which is not fair, and not right. It’s not like we don’t have this information, some of this documentation and these publications are available in the public domain. CE has covered these in depth, and the link below will take you where you want to go, to an article that is well sourced with lots of information. There are more examples on our website, so if this sparks your interest feel free to browse through it and look for more!

Something The Entire World Should See – Most Of Us Are Simply Unaware

North East of Hawaii, the ocean currents form a giant whirl pool of debris from around the Pacific, the scientific name is called the North Pacific Gyre. It’s one of the largest ecosystems on Earth, comprising of millions of square kilometres.
Today it’s better known as “The Great Garbage Patch,” an area the size of Queensland, Australia where there is approximately one million tonnes of plastic spread throughout the ocean. Drag a net in any area of this part of the ocean and you will pick up toxic, discarded plastic.
Photographer Chris Jordan has documented this phenomenon.
I had been studying for quite a while the phenomenon called the Pacific garbage patch. I was looking for a way to visualize it, it was really surreal to land on Midway, seeing that my worst hopes of what I would find there are true. These are all albatross chicks, hatched out of their eggs and the very first meal they got was deadly to them. What happens is, when the eggs hatch one of the parents goes out and flies looking for food. They search over this vast area of the pacific and when they come back with is a belly full of toxic plastics, and they feed that to their babies. They die of starvation, malnutrition and chocking. Simply allow yourself to feel whatever it is you feel about this, without jumping to the way to solve it. Because I think we really need to feel these things, even if the feelings are uncomfortable, because those are the feelings that will turn into the fuel and drive passionate action – Chris Jordan
The desire to change these things will put the human race on a journey to do so, and we are in the midst of it. Ultimately it is our choice as to whether or not we take the time to educate ourselves about our choices and begin doing things in a manner that cares for our environment and home more than our materialistic needs.
What can we do about this problem now? As much as possible, support eco-friendly products. Avoid being wasteful and purchasing new products each time a new version comes out simply so we can be up to date with the latest greatest. Create awareness about this issue and pass it onto your friends and family. Awareness has been key in changing various aspects of our world and so often we give it little credit. It is much more powerful than we think.

How to Speak so Others Listen

As we step back and observe our speech we have all had times where we have used one or more of these ‘sins of speech’.  Perhaps with awareness and effort we will be able to shift our speech into a powerful and positive light so that other people around us want to hear us and connect on a deeper level.

good-thoughts-words-deedsWhat you say is also how you say it.  As we are transparent, full of love, true to ourselves, and follow through with what we say, we will resonate more with the people around us.
One of the biggest secrets to speech, connecting to others and manifesting what we want in life is to make sure what we mean lines up with what we say.  Say what you mean and mean what you say.  It seems simple but most people hide what they really mean or want.
Say what you really think or feel, with love and awareness for the people around you, then act upon what you say.  This simple formula carries vibrations from thought, to word, then finally to manifestation.

Ghosts: Are our beliefs manifesting them?

This is a photograph of The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall -  considerably the most famous ghost picture taken to date. I remember seeing it all throughout my childhood while perusing around the internet.The-Brown-Lady-of-Raynham-Hall-urban-legends-234828_1020_1336
About a year ago I found out these are my ancestors.
I’m directly related to  Charles Townshend, the Secretary of State for the British foreign policy during the early 1700′s.
My great, great grandma on my dad’s side shares the same last name.
The lineage goes back through thousands of people, so who knows you could be related too! It’s not entirely inconceivable, I mean at some point we all come from the same source, right?
This picture was taken in Raynham Hall in Norfolk, England in 1936 by photographers from Country Life magazine.
The Brown Lady of Raynham is the ghost of Lady Townshend who’s maiden name was Dorothy Walpole before marrying Charles Townshend. Supposedly, he was well known for having a horribly fiery temper.
When Charles learned that his wife was cheating on him, he punished her by imprisoning her in the family estate. He never allowed her to leave its premises, not even to see her children. She remained there until her death in 1726 from smallpox.
Over the next two centuries Lady Townshend’s ghost was repeatedly sighted wandering through Raynham Hall, suggesting that she never left its premises even after her death.

Indre Shira and Captain Provand, the photographers who snapped the infamous shot accounted for their experience:
“Captain Provand took one photograph while I flashed the light. He was focusing for another exposure; I was standing by his side just behind the camera with the flashlight pistol in my hand, looking directly up the staircase. All at once I detected an ethereal veiled form coming slowly down the stairs. Rather excitedly, I called out sharply: ‘Quick, quick, there’s something.‘ I pressed the trigger of the flashlight pistol.
After the flash and on closing the shutter, Captain Provand removed the focusing cloth from his head and turning to me said: ‘What’s all the excitement about?’”
When they developed the picture they found that they had captured the image of a ghostly woman drifting down the stairs.
522133There have been so many attempts over the years to debunk this phenomena. Many say this picture was faked with a double exposure.
That makes perfect sense if these photographers just wanted to have some content to publish in their magazine.
It also makes sense that they were able to catch a moment of our dimensional veils thinning!

Take into account back then, and centuries before this, people were much more superstitious and had open minds to paranormal experiences.
When we realize our realities are projections of what we allow into our belief systems, back then, peoples beliefs systems were much broader.big_thumb_4d874afbaf431668b6dabf0f1ff9cbd4
There have been countless  spirit encounters that people truly believed happened, and thats maybe why they did. They believed in these experiences so much that they were able to see into the next.
To view this from source perspective, the idea of a ghost is not strange or impossible, it’s just energy manifested in a form of what we’ve labelled as ‘ghosts.’
We’ve entered what is called the era of disbelief. There are SO many fake ghost, UFO and alien pictures. But there’s also many, many real ones.
We’ve been bombarded with false photos and videos – just don’t know what to believe anymore. Discerning the real from the fake takes time and trusting your inner feelings.
If we are all infinite beings of light having a physical experience, the existence of ghosts is simply not a hoax. When our belief systems open up, we understand nothing is impossible.
The intention behind this article is to not necessarily to make you question if all this is real or not – but rather open a discussion on what you think and where your beliefs lead you.
What’s your gut feeling on this?  If you’re skeptical about it – really ask yourself why. You might be surprised where those questions lead you.

The Science Of Auras & Energy

Kirlian-Photography

Kirlian photography is an amazing technique for creating print photographs that essentially show an objects aura!
The discoverer of this technique, Seymond Kirlian was a Russian electrician and maintenance man at his local hospital.
In 1939 he constructed an unusual device that places a sheet photographic film on top of a metal discharge plate that uses high voltage to create an exposure of an image.
The first thing he photographed was his own hand! When he developed the picture, he saw a glow emanating from his finger tips.
He tried this experiment on many different objects, and what he found was ASTOUNDING!
From Online Gallery: Kirlian Photography
He started to experiment on a freshly picked leaf. When the film developed, it had a bright aura around it as if it were fully alive and functional.
When he measured the same leaf a few days later, the aura had a much dimmer aura, but it still glowed.
The energy emitting from the plant would lessen as the days went on. This right here is amazing evidence of the energy (auras) that exist all around us.
If that’s not the most amazing part: If you cut off the tip of a leaf right before it was experimented on, there was still an energy outline of it being there! As if it were never cut at all! It was only days later that the leaf actually appeared cut. The aura took a far longer time to fade away because the geometry of the leaf still existed energetically.
It was reported that the glow of the leafs aura would intensify as a human hand approached it, as if the energy off the two were merging.
He went on to experiment on coins which ended up having a much dimmer aura altogether. This example proves that objects that are alive are producing much more energy.
Alessandra-dopoOn a human hand, if the person was ill or worried, the auras were blurry and disorganized.
If they were in good health, the brightness was sharp and more visible.
This says so much about how our thoughts and state of being effect us on so many levels we can’t visibly see.
The pictures created from this machine are not only immensely interesting and demonstrate the ways energy emits itself – they are absolutely stunning!

This is an amazing scientific and practical way to understand how auras work.
