Did you know that the average person spends 4 years of their life
looking at their phone? Have we become so disconnected as a people
that we are more concerned with the filter on the photo of our food than
we are with eating it?
Have we become less social now that we have social media in our
lives? Do we judge more and love less? Why do we feel the impulse to
take a selfie every time something interesting happens in our lives?
Prince Ea has made an amazing mind opening video about how social media is disconnecting us from each other, check it out below!
On top of societies apparent addiction with social media and distraction we can only begin to speculate what it is doing to our egos.
The
ego is our sense of separateness. It allows us to function in this
world and it also is the part of you that makes you feel separate from
everyone and everything else around you.
With the constant status updates and photos being uploaded we end up spending more time than we would like to admit showing off, comparing, judging and worrying about things that make us feel more separate than unified as humans. How can we reignite our deep connections with family and friends among all the social media chaos?
There
are many ways that phones, technology and social media can be used for
good meaningful connection too. If we are over long distances from
family and friends or need to coordinate efforts for changing the world
social media can be a useful tool. However too often it is full of
negativity, tragedy and fear.
Maybe in order to start living again we need to start by reducing our cell phone use, internet browsing and status updating.
What do you think about social media? Do you think that people are too addicted to their phones? Are we losing our ability to connect with other people around us? Let us know in the comments.
